Michael Hofmann-Body - Partner

Michael heads our HomeLegal team.  A Partner of the firm for four years he is one of the region’s leading residential conveyancing lawyers.  He has a close working relationship with all real estate firms and is often their “go to” person when residential conveyancing issues arise.  Michael also is the mastermind behind our sophisticated word processing and client reporting systems.  He is married to Karen with two young children.

1. Why did you become a lawyer?
   I wanted to work with people.  I enjoy assisting people with problems and helping them find solutions.
2. When you are not being a lawyer what do you like doing most?
   Travelling, both the world and New Zealand.  I am also a regular at Wellington Phoenix games.
3. Where is your special place in the region?
   The Brooklyn windmill where you can enjoy beautiful views from the South Island across the Wellington Harbour to the Hutt Valley and the Tararuas beyond.
4. What is your favourite shop/restaurant?
   The Mediterranean Food Warehouse in Lower Hutt.  Order an "Isle of Capri" pizza on your next visit.  It’s a great casual restaurant to either eat in or take out.  Joe and Michelle always make you feel welcome.
5. How would you describe your style of practice?
   I like to find practical solutions to whatever problems my client may be experiencing.
6. If you had to give a first homebuyer a single piece of advice, what would it be?
   Don't make assumptions.  Almost all issues we encounter arise from our clients, or the other solicitor's clients, making an assumption about a matter touching on the process.  You shouldn’t take anything for granted.
7. What is different about the HomeLegal service that makes it so popular?
   The emphasis on communication with all the participants including the client, real estate agents, brokers and bankers.
